3D Laser Scanning

3D Models and Drawings

MGI uses sophisticated 3D laser scanning technologies that capture nearly 1 million location points per second on the surface of the structure or terrain being scanned to develop highly accurate, detailed models of three-dimensional objects and geographical surfaces.

Our processing staff then construct the 3D models or drawings required by the client.

Advantages

3D technologies provide ± 2.0 millimetre accuracy and enable us to capture complex environments more accurately, more quickly, and with much more detail than by using conventional survey technologies.

They also eliminate most return visits to the site and are safer in hazardous or virtually inaccessible locations.

Applications

MGI uses 3D laser scanning technologies to address many client requirements, including:

  • as-built models of structures and mechanical installations, including electrical substations, plant sites, buildings, compressor stations, wellsites, water and sewage facilities, bridges, and other structures
  • topographic and site plans
  • inspection of construction sites
  • review of grading and drainage issues
  • highly accurate volumetric data
  • deformation monitoring
  • structural planning, design, and inspection
  • visual documentation of industrial sites for quality control and project management
  • plant site retro-fitting and re-engineering
  • road design and intersection data
  • GIS mapping
  • accident investigation
  • measurement of structures that are not safely accessible
  • web-based client viewing of scanned data, including site measurements and 360o panoramic views of the site
