Land Claim Surveys

MGI had provided extensive cadastral surveying services to support First Nations land claim agreements and has established excellent working relationships with First Nations in Alberta, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Mackenzie Valley in the Northwest Territories. Our projects have included supply, employment, and technology transfer opportunities for First Nations businesses and personnel.  Land claim surveys, particularly those undertaken in the high Arctic, rely on advanced GNSS technologies to delineate boundaries. We use state-of-the-art GNSS equipment and employ highly-qualified, experienced GNSS specialists.

Working with Aboriginal Communities

As members of the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors, MGI professionals work with aboriginal communities to blend traditional aboriginal beliefs with contemporary land management practices. We understand the unique land values of these communities, and work with tribal councils, local band councils, community land, resource, and housing managers, and individual property owners to achieve aboriginal land management goals.  MGI actively supports the transfer of geomatics knowledge and technology to aboriginal communities and encourages aboriginal employment in geomatics professions.

Aboriginal Geomatics Websites

The following websites contain information related to the geomatics interests of aboriginal and First Nations communities:

In addition, the Atlas of Canada presents a vast collection of interactive maps, many of which show the geographical distribution of Canada's Aboriginal Languages, Aboriginal Populations, Historical Peoples, and a wide range of other socio-geographic populations.
