Maltais Geomatics Inc. (MGI) values our relationships with customers and employees, and is committed to the protection of personal information collected during the course of business. We comply with the private sector privacy legislation that pertains to our collection and use of personal information, namely Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act, both of which became law on January 1, 2004. These laws govern the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information that is obtained and used for a commercial activity.
Collection of personal information
MGI will obtain prior consent when collecting, using, and disclosing personal information, except when the refusal to disclose information is inappropriate (in an emergency or when consent would compromise the availability or accuracy of the information). We will obtain your consent in a form appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and we will allow you to modify or withdraw your consent.
We will collect only as much personal information as is reasonable. We will collect it directly from you and we will inform you of how we will use and disclose the information.
We will obtain your express consent to collect, use, or disclose sensitive personal information such as personal financial information except where these actions are justified for the purpose of collecting overdue accounts.
Use and disclosure of personal information
We will use and disclose personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected unless you consent to a new use or the privacy laws permit use or disclosure without consent.
Information access and correction
On request, we will provide you with information about the existence, use, and disclosure of your personal information and we will provide you with access to that information if it is reasonable to do so.
On request, we will correct information about you that is inaccurate except when the information is recorded as opinion.
Security
We will collect only personal information that is necessary for employment, account collection, and contract purposes. We will ensure that this personal information is secure from unauthorized access and we will retain the information only as long as is reasonable for business and legal purposes.
We do not use “cookies” to track how our website visitors use MGI’s website except on the secure MGI site that is accessed by clients to request information and services and by MGI personnel to respond to clients’ requests and perform internal business tasks. We do track employee use of company computers.
Openness
MGI President and General Manager Irwin Maltais ensures company compliance with personal privacy legislation and, on request, provides information about MGI’s management of personal information.
