Safety Policy

Our health and safety program initially earned a Certificate of Recognition (COR) in 2002, and we were re-accredited in 2005, 2008, and 2011 with very positive audit results (Certificate Number 20110826-2039). The COR program—a partnership involving Alberta Human Resources and Employment, the Workers' Compensation Board, and partner industries—involves the implementation of safety management systems that promote injury-free workplaces. The program focuses on hazard identification and control, safe work procedures, appropriate safety training, regular safety inspections at all levels of the organization, and the identification and elimination of new health and safety risks associated with workplace changes.

Corporate Safety Officer Bob Stirling

The safety of all personnel, the protection of the environment, and the protection of equipment and facilities are critically important to our business. Our health and safety program not only makes good business sense—it is also an obligation we have to our own personnel, the employees of other companies, the communities we serve, and the natural areas in which we work.

We invest extensively in safety training for employees with the objective of being an incident-free workplace. Management is responsible for providing a safe work environment and managing the company's safety performance, and individual employees are responsible for working safely and maintaining the safety of their co-workers.  Compliance with our health and safety policies is a condition of employment with MGI.

Our health and safety program is implemented in a "no blame" culture where our purpose is not to assign blame but rather to recognize work hazards and minimize  risks. We comply with all relevant legislation and industry standards, implement  truly safe work procedures, and conduct regular on-site safety inspections. The Corporate Safety Officer reports to MGI's Board of Directors.
